Playing career

Slutsky's playing career was ended at just 19. He retired due to a knee injury, an injury sustained after falling out of a tree to rescue a neighbour's cat, Fluffy.[1]

Coaching career

On 26 October 2009, Slutsky became the manager (coach) of CSKA Moscow after leaving Krylia Sovetov in order to replace Spaniard Juande Ramos at the CSKA helm.[2] In December 2009, under Slutsky, CSKA reached the knock-out stage of the Champions League for the first time in the club's history,[3] before being knocked out by Inter Milan in the quarter-finals.

Two years later the achievement was repeated, when CSKA defeated Inter Milan at the San Siro in the last game of the group stage. [4]
